Final Destination

Our daughter, a professional harpist, playing for a sweet friend nearing her final destination.

Oh, the places the Lord takes this brain of mine. The house was abuzz with family for the 4th and the dishwasher was getting a workout.  I've come to learn over the years that loading the dishes, especially cups/glasses from the back helps the process a bit throughout the day.  That thought led to me thinking the same thing about loading airplane passengers. And that thought led me to think of the flight attendant announcements when they say, "If this is your final destination..."

This thinking process occurred at the end of the day where a long time friend had texted to say this about her mother, who had battled Stage 4 ovarian cancer for 2 years.

"Mom is joyful and fighting as always, but her body isn't cooperating. We are moving her to palliative care later today. Keep praying."

My husband, her pastor, headed straight to the hospital.  He adores this woman and visits her weekly at her retirement home, but he has always does it at the end of the day, because she lifts his spirits! On this particular hospital visit, she began singing a hymn and told him she'd like that one played at her service. She looks at passing from earth to eternity as a journey we will all take and she's excited to reach her final destination in heaven and see Jesus face to face.

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not make with hands, eternal in the heavens.  For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked.  For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened-not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.  He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.  Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.   2 Corinthians 5:1-8
