Wooing

Summer boat ride.

The topic on my brain is wooing. There are numerous definitions for woo.   I chuckled at some of the more contemporary sites like this one...vocabulary.com  (Especially the last example!)

"When you woo someone, you are being charming because you think that it will make them love you more.  You want to win their heart, so you woo them, you flirty dog you."

"Poetry is a great way to woo someone, because who could resist such beautiful words? Wooing requires a romantic heart and a lot of focused attention on the person you desire.  But wooing isn't always just done for love, and you can woo someone because you want their support, like when a rock band woos a record label to release their album, or wooing your grandmother because you need to borrow some money."  LOL.

Can you remember a time you were wooed or that you wooed someone?  It's fun to think back upon those times.  Maybe you need to do some wooing tonight.

It's so amazing to think that God woos us. He pursues us with a passionate desire. Forget poetry. He has written us a very dramatic love letter exemplifying his deep longing for us to come to Him.  Jesus reminds us in John 6:44...

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

Occasionally, on Instagram a wedding video pops up showing a teary eyed groom watching his bride come down the aisle towards him.  As a body of believers our adoring bridegroom is Jesus.  Just imagine the day we see Him face to face.

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. Matthew 24:36

God doesn't need us, but He wants us. He keeps pursuing us much farther and longer than any of us deserve.

Oh, Lord, in the name of Jesus, may someone You are wooing today fall deeply, with everlasting love, in love with You. May the meditations of our hearts, the words of our mouths and the actions of our everyday living reflect our deep love for You. In Jesus' name, Amen
