Time Can Be A Distraction
While replacing batteries in this digital clock, which sits in a little kitchenette in our basement, I thought..."Hmm, maybe I should move this into the great room where we lead Bible studies. In an instance I sensed the Spirit say "No, time can be a distraction."
Isn't that true! When we can see the minutes ticking away, we are prone to think about where we need to be next and not about what God is teaching, speaking or calling us to!!!
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk-not as unwise people but as wise-making the most of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16
I met a woman who visits our church when they are staying at their second home on Smith Mt Lake. We were trying to find a time to get together and our schedules where not matching up. She texted one morning that she was available the next day. I had several things on my schedule getting ready for two weeks of various festivities and overnighters, but I decided to make time for a visit with this new sister in Christ. I am so thankful I did. We sat in rocking chairs by the lake for two and half hours and it was so refreshing!
Chatting with another friend, we talked about all the opportunities we miss to follow the Lord's lead, because we are so self focused on our own worldly missions! When that stirring occurs in our hearts to step out in faith and make time for another, even a stranger, it could be a divine appointment with an eternal impact.
Paul teaches about this in Colossians chapter 4.
When you are with unbelievers, always make good use of the time. Be pleasant and hold their interest when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to give answers to anyone who asks questions. Colossians 4:5-6 CEV
"Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best us of the time." Colossians 4:5 ESV
Lord, You are the One who controls each beat of our heart. Our time is in Your hands. Today we remember that You have a timely invitation to be extended to everyone and You may be calling us to join You in spreading the Word about the love of Jesus. May we be found faithful to focus on You, on where You are at work and with whom You want us to give our time to be part of Your plan. May our timing and plans never become a distraction to Your plans. In Jesus' name. Amen
