He Gives and Takes Away

I've been privileged to pray with a group of women in Mississippi via email for many years.  The past few weeks we've been praying for a young high school girl, whose heart mysteriously stopped beating while just hanging out in the bedroom of a friend.  It ends up she had a rare heart disease called "Long QT Syndrome”.  The parents have had her on life support praying for a miracle, but doctors explained it was time to let her go.  Her dad wrote...

"We've been waiting all day for the phone call.  The one that says they have an operating room ready for us. Trinity will be donating any organ or tissues that are usable to save as many lives as she can. This was very important to her. Her Mia... someone that meant that world to her... passed while waiting for a kidney transplant.  

So we wait for the phone call.  Then we go for her "Honor walk".  They will line the hospital hallways leading to the OR with nurses and her family to honor the sacrifice she is giving to save the life of many strangers.  Then she'll be gone from us.  And we'll be left to figure out how to pick up the pieces in our world."

Such a mix of emotions. Such a great loss for this family, but other families are about to receive long awaited phones calls which may bring life to their loved ones.

"Blessed be Your Name" is a song by Matt Redman.  It is based on Job 1:21 Naked I came from my mother's womb and naked I shall return there.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.; Blessed be the name of the Lord. 

One lyric says "He gives and takes away." This speaks of the sovereignty of God who is always with us, always in control and the One who can take even our darkest moments and turn them into reasons to praise.

Marriage Matters #1

One of life's deepest hurts is when the one you love is unfaithful. Forty years ago, I remember an older friend, whose wife had been unfaithful and left him for another man saying to me..."Boo, I hope you never experience having the person you love and are married to, living 8 blocks away loving someone else." Deep hurt. They divorced. The wife of another friend of ours was having an affair with a fellow church member and a neighbor of theirs who lived 5 blocks away. She moved in with this man and our friend said one evening he was walking by the house where they were living together and saw them sitting at a table having a candlelight dinner. Ugh. The torment. I've always said it would be aweful to find out the person you were married to and  loved deeply loved another.  Hmm. Are You Sinking... Being Tossed About?

  A text came in from our neighbor recently, on a cold blustery day, when I was home with a stomach bug and awful headache. He said, "My canoe blew off our dock and has floated over to your shore."  And I'm thinking..."And you want me to do what?" I explained my husband was at work, but could help in the afternoon. I went to the window and could see the boat being tossed back and forth along our shore line. One minute it was close to our main dock and the next the winds had shifted and it was 200 feet in the opposite direction.  What I then realized is it had been taking on water. A text came again that he was in his car and driving around to our property.  Climbing out of my night shirt, I put on warm ups, UGGS boots and a hooded coat and limped outside to see how I could help.
