Strife and Discord

Image
This turtle went through some strife being captured by our family, but he has been enjoying a private pool and dining on fresh raspberries and other turtle delicacies he would not have found in the wild. August 24th there was an article on the IFA site related to the name of the newest COVID strand.  Gloria Roberts wrote... "When I saw the new strain of COVID trending, something caught my eye. The name is “Eris.” Most Christians understand that names can have prophetic meanings. Eris is the Greek goddess of strife, and her Roman equivalent is  Discordia.  She stands for chaos, contention, rivalry, and war. Thus, her name means  strife  and  discord.  Discord and strife are a one-two punch that works together. Discord is simply a lack of agreement or harmony. It happens when someone intentionally stirs up trouble to divide, either by words or actions. The sole purpose is to sow distrust. Once the seeds have been sown, since there is no longer agreement, suspicion, arguments, and fi

Look for Reminders

Image
A couple birthdays ago a friend gave me a set of these hand towels and they are wonderful reminders of how blessed we all are.  Just the word blessed  prompts me to stop and remember what it means to be a child of God. A deer came right onto our patio and ate to tops off a whole tray of succulents I had waiting to be planted!  Instead of tossing the tray I brought it up onto our deck and little sprouts are returning, reminding me of how God brings back life in areas we think are totally dead. We can hold a newborn baby and watch them grin in their sleep realizing God might just be whispering to them at even such a young age. The reminders that God is good, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient are all around. We just have to take the time to look and remember. Our church is currently in a study of the Book of Joshua and after the Israelites crossed the Jordan River God had the leaders build a monumnet in the river bed out of 12 large rocks as a reminder of where He had taken them. No Robbing our Joy

Perfect Peace I've shared before about a young woman in Auburn, AL whom I've prayed for for years. She has  Ocular melanoma, a very serious eye cancer. She has gone through many drug trials to battle this mostly fatal disease.  If you want to be encouraged follow her on Facebook-Ashley McCrary. Check out part of her last post while she was in Philadelphia for her 108th trip for medical treatment. "Shortly after this beautiful moment of rest, I reached down to get my phone only to find it was not in my purse. I had put it down in the coffee shop's bathroom which was a few feet from where I was sitting. When I went back in to the coffee shop  it was gone. We checked with the baristas and the park's security office. It would have been so easy for someone to turn it in, but instead it was gone. We did all the things you should do when a phone is lost or stolen... called it, pinged it, tried looking it up on "find my phone" but to no avail. I believe I would

Around the Word instead of Around the World

Image
This little one is full of the joy of the world! First day of three year old Pre-K   Several years ago, a relative of mine had the luxury of taking an around the world trip which had been arranged as a retirement gift for her husband. I'm sure it was unforgettable. The phrase, around the world  popped into my head and I realized I will never travel around the world, but there is equally as much richness to be treasured when we travel  around the Word.  God's Word is full of picturesque history, sites and smells we can imagine if we allow our senses to take us there. It is filled with wisdom, instruction and the hope of what's to come.  A visit is to Israel would be wonderful, but not being there in person in no way diminishes the power of all it represents. God's Word is enough for me. I read an article on the 7 Powers of God's Word. https://bibletalk.tv/7-powers-of-the-word 1) Power to Reveal in Genesis 1-2 how and when the world was created, the reason we are sinf
