The Out Pouring

People find the greatest joy when they are pouring their love out on others, so that is what I have asked the Lord to lead me on the next couple months...a joyful out pouring of love in unexpected places. He may have other plans, but He just got my attention when the verse He brought to mind today was Zephaniah 3:17 and then I opened a devotional gifted to me by a friend and there staring at me on Day 1 was that specific verse.

The Lord your God is living among you.  He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.  Zephaniah 3:17

As I typed the verse the 2012 song"You've Got A Friend in Me"  from the movie Toy Story (which I've never seen) began playing in my head.  

"You've got a friend in me. You've got a friend in me.                                                                                 When the road looks rough ahead and you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed                                 You just remember what your old pal said Boy, you've got a friend in me, yeah you've got a friend in me....

There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you. We stick together and see it through cause you've got a friend in me...Some folks might be a little bit smarter than I am...bigger and stronger too, maybe none of them will ever love you the way I do. It's me and you boy...you've got a friend in me."

While those sentiments are catchy they are coming from a human perspective and promise. We've all experienced disappointment from a "stick by you forever" friend. So, let's go back to Zephaniah.

The Lord your God is living among you.                                                                                                          He is a mighty savior.                                                                                                                                     He will take delight in you with gladness.                                                                                                 With His love, he will calm all your fears.                                                                                                     He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.  Zephaniah 3:17

Marriage Matters #1

One of life's deepest hurts is when the one you love is unfaithful. Forty years ago, I remember an older friend, whose wife had been unfaithful and left him for another man saying to me..."Boo, I hope you never experience having the person you love and are married to, living 8 blocks away loving someone else." Deep hurt. They divorced. The wife of another friend of ours was having an affair with a fellow church member and a neighbor of theirs who lived 5 blocks away. She moved in with this man and our friend said one evening he was walking by the house where they were living together and saw them sitting at a table having a candlelight dinner. Ugh. The torment. I've always said it would be aweful to find out the person you were married to and  loved deeply loved another.  Hmm. Are You Sinking... Being Tossed About?

  A text came in from our neighbor recently, on a cold blustery day, when I was home with a stomach bug and awful headache. He said, "My canoe blew off our dock and has floated over to your shore."  And I'm thinking..."And you want me to do what?" I explained my husband was at work, but could help in the afternoon. I went to the window and could see the boat being tossed back and forth along our shore line. One minute it was close to our main dock and the next the winds had shifted and it was 200 feet in the opposite direction.  What I then realized is it had been taking on water. A text came again that he was in his car and driving around to our property.  Climbing out of my night shirt, I put on warm ups, UGGS boots and a hooded coat and limped outside to see how I could help.
