Don't Get Swallowed Up

We are having fun with this shark inflatable this summer.

Are you sitting by the sea shore this summer or maybe a lake? While that might not be the best time to tell the story of Jonah to your children or your grands, it's a good lesson to pack away for another day. It's an excellent example of the times we think we know better than God.

And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Jonah 1:17

God has a valuable lesson to teach Jonah about the Lord's mercy and forgiveness, which extends beyond Jonah and Israel to all people who repent and believe. Like Jonah, there are times when we think there are people who do not deserve this gift from God, so when he calls us to a tough place like Nineveh, we turn the other way defying God.

You know the song lyric , "Trust and Obey for there's no better way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey?"  Kind of fitting for this story.  Better to obey than to be in the belly of a great fish.

It's hard to grasp the depth of God's love for all of his creations, so are grumpier and crueler than others.  The phrase "Call me back, Lord" is coming to mind right now. There are so many who are downtrodden and want to answer God's call, but may need a Jonah to come alongside them and share the God News.

May God give us ears to hear Him when he calls and all eyes to see all of his creations as valuable treasures to Him worth the same mercy and forgiveness we have received.
