Authority in the Name of Jesus

Chatting with a high school girl about her summer work experience in the food industry, I asked what were some unusual things she encountered.  One was being asked by a women to announce her pregnancy in the restaurant as a surprise to her husband. The high schooler said she'd do it if she promised a good tip. 😉 Smart girl.

The other was a guy giving his name for an order. He said his name was Jesus.

That got me thinking. Why would someone name their child Jesus?  In the "Got Questions" article below it mentions Bible references of people who did not believe in Jesus, but tried using his name like a good luck charm.

This article also addresses how we are to pray in Jesus' name.

"It is in Jesus' name that God instructs us to pray (John 16:23-24).  Believers are invited to pray in Jesus' name with an expectation that God answers prayers (John 14:13-14). Praying in Jesus' name means praying with His authority (Luke 10:19) and asking God the Father to act upon our prayers because we come by faith in the name of His Son, Jesus.

Let's be intentional to remember the authority that Jesus has when we use his name.

Toe Sucking

June 13 If I keep my eyes on God, I won't trip over my own feet. Psalm 25:12 …or allow them to be sucked off by carp!  For as long as I've been on this lake (49 years) we've gone to feed the carp at various marinas.   I have a bag of old bread waiting to be tossed to the carp tomorrow by our grandchildren!   There's a new adventure at a couple of the marinas.  Toe sucking!   For 25 cents you can buy a small scoop of peanut butter to go on your toes. Then the carp suck it off!   I just got a pedicure, so I have an excuse not to participate! What we do need to participate in is keeping our feet on the paths the Lord sets before us. Give careful though to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Proverbs 4:26

Mercy and Grace

  These three grands got wheels  for Christmas! Praying for mercy and grace! 2025 finds me launching off into a new Bible reading plan.
