What Are You Putting on Today?

Our son and daughter in law in Olympic National Park Hoh Rainforest

Is the weather bringing us a high of 60 or 85 today? Fall weather can be tricky. On the day of this writing the temps started out at 58 and peeked to 85 degrees.  It's hard to know what to wear.

Colossians 3:12-17 tells us what to put on spiritually to survive the climate of our hearts.

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

There are a lot of "to do's" for us in this passage. Grab your journey or a piece of paper and make a list.

After my stroke anything involving a sequence of steps was incredibly difficult. At times a show stopper, so impossible. Now it's doable but brain taxing.  The effort it took to know how to put on clothes finally resulted in the aid of sticky notes.  I still catch myself saying, "I need panties, a bra, a shirt/dress or pants, shoes, my purse...

I should dress myself spiritually with such diligence.

Boo, put on...

A compassionate heart, kindness, meekness and patience.

Bear with others and forgive them quickly today.

With a thankful heart, better than the coziest winter coat, put on love and the Word of God and go forward allowing the peace of Christ to rule in your heart.

As you step out today in the name of Jesus sing of his goodness to the world!
