What is Engraved in Our Minds Stays There
US Open Tennis Trophy being engraved on site with the winner's name immediately following the match.
The brain is mind boggling! (That sounded weird, but true.) Monday morning I said to my husband, "I just had the most vivid detailed dream of a place I visited 45-50 years ago! It was a tiny silver shop, maybe in Georgetown, VA and I could see specific items on the shelves. In the dream I was walking into this shop years later, but thinking, "Wait! I've been here before." My mind remembered a curtained off area that smelled like tobacco and behind that sat a man engraving silver.
While reflecting on this dream with my husband, the prompt for that dream hit us both at the same time! Sunday after the US Open Tennis Finals the camera showed a Tiffany's master engraver engraving the trophy on site!
How did my brain bring all that back up? What we place into our minds is important.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 11:18-19
What we choose to remember affects our mental health. We tend to gravitate to the hurtful things more quickly than the happy, but God has given us a Helper whose job is to bring to remembrance all the things Jesus has said and in those things we find great mental health, forgiveness and healing for past wounds. For the Holy Spirit is our Helper and Jesus is our Healer.
Rely on the Spirit. "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit...he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." John 14:26
Jesus instituted two sacraments, baptism and communion. Communion is a time of remembrance for what Jesus did for us. His sacrifice should be forever engraved in our minds.
When Jesus was reclining with his disciples, after breaking some bread and distributing it to them he said, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19
May all our dreams be sweet remembrances and only the things that are pleasing to the Lord and profitable for teaching us his ways, be engraved in our minds.
