Get Your Bearings
Yes, he's wearing a shoulder strap due to post surgery protocol while riding horse back riding. My comfort is that his orthopedic doc is a good friend of his and possibly with him
Our Utah son enjoys being out in the wilderness and I'm sure often stops to get his bearings.
Honest confessions. I'm old and I still love an actual map to figure out where I am going. The past 27 years we have lived in rural Franklin County, VA. Everything we need from groceries/restaurants to doctors can be obtained on two intersecting roads. We only have to go less than a mile out of our driveway to get to the first road. Our dentist, PCP, optometrist, PT and pharmacy are all within a 2 block walk of one another. Life is simple.
When we travel to see our grands in larger cities, getting our bearings can be overwhelming. Recently, I found myself continually praying "Lord, please guide us and protect us." when we were in the car. He did! Hallelujah!
Leslie Bennett, who writes for Revive Our Hearts ministry, wrote:
"Without God’s truth, we’ll lose our bearings. The Word faithfully guides us in the right direction. Scripture never fails to safeguard our steps."
One of her posts had this list of what we gain from God's Word. I need all these amenities in my life.

Alistair Begg teaches..."Paul wrote to the early church in Phillipi to help them get their spiritual bearings amid a crooked and twisted generation." He warns believers "not to be passive" and notes in Philippians 1:2 I am confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Here is a bearings thought. Paul wrote Philippians from prison. Wherever we are in life, God can use it for good. When we don't know where to turn we can remember one way to get our spiritual bearings is to pray and take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) to see if it's in obedience to Christ.
