To Be...Worshipful Day 1

Some men praying with my husband on our patio.
What a powerful picture.
August 1
Last week the summer women of Shiloh did a study on being worshipful.   Hope you enjoy the study this week.
Day 1 What is Worship?
Go away to a quiet place and practice worshipping the Lord.  Make “who” He is your single focus.

O nations of the world, recognize the Lord, recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence.
Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice!  Tell all the nations, “The Lord reigns!”
1 Chronicles 16:28-31(NLT)

Kneel
“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all stars of light!  Praise Him, highest heavens, And the waters that are above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the LORD, For He commanded and they were created.”

Nibble
“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!Psalm 57:7

Nourish  What is worship?

“Worship is different than prayer. Worship focuses on who God is.  Prayers focus on what God has done or what we want him to do.  Worship is bowing before our Master, to bend down and kiss His hand.  It’s filled with adoration and reverence.

Worship is different from praise. "Praise is the joyful recounting of all God has done for us. It is closely intertwined with thanksgiving as we offer back to God appreciation for His mighty works on our behalf.  Praise is universal and can be applied to other relationships as well.  We can praise our family, friends, boss, or paperboy.  Praise does not require anything of us.  It is merely the truthful acknowledgement of the righteous acts of another.  Since God has done many wonderful deeds, He is worthy of praise.

Worship, however, comes from a different place within spirits.  Worship should be reserved for God alone.  (Luke 4:8)  Worship is the art of losing self in the adoration of another.  Praise can be a part of worship, but worship goes beyond praise.  Praise is easy; worship is not.

Worship gets to the heart of who we are.  To truly worship God, we must let go of our self-worship.  We must be willing to humble ourselves before God, surrender every part of our lives to His control, and adore Him for who He is, not just what He has done.  Worship is a lifestyle, not jut an occasional activity,  Jesus said the Father is seeking those who will worship Him "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23).

Worship is an attitude of the heart. A person can go through the outward motions and not be worshipping.  God sees the heart, and He desires and deserves sincere, heartfelt praise and worship."
From gotquestions.org

“The inner essence of worship is to know God truly and then respond from the heart to that knowledge by valuing God, treasuring God, praising God, enjoying God, being satisfied with God above all earthly things. And then that deep, restful, joyful satisfaction in God overflows in demonstrable acts of praise from the lips and demonstrable acts of love in serving others for the sake of Christ.” John Piper

Write down what you want to remember about your time of worship today?
Knock
Take me deeper, Father. Deeper into a knowledge of who You are than I’ve ever experienced.  Create in me a pure heart, a steadfast heart set on worshipping You in every detail of your splendor.  Block the distractions from my mind and help me zone in and focus on You as I worship you with abandonment.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
