Session 3 Chapters 5-6
Video lesson #3
https://wildatheart.org/rhplay/video/moving-mountains-session-3-prayer-intervention
This recap is just a sprinkling of all the meat in these chapters.
Pray like you:
-know who you are in the kingdom of God-not orphans, nor slaves, but sons and daughters of the King, his friend and allies;
-believe that intervening prayer is more than just asking God to do something;
-understand authority -and the authority you have been given, and be bold enough to use it;
-choose to unite with others in prayer in order to increase their effectiveness; and
-accept the truth that the authority you have been given extends over creation.
Chapter 5 Bold Authority
“Authority is one of the secrets of the kingdom of God and is one of the essential secrets to prayer that works.”
Don’t miss the story of the centurion seeking prayer for his servant. Matthew 8:5-10 where Jesus is astonished by the centurion’s faith. I keep reading his words over and over “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.”
There is an excellent explanation on pages 60-61 of what is currently happening on earth with Satan as ‘the prince of this world’ (John 14:30). Praise the Lord, “Jesus came to win it all back ...Through his life of total obedience to the Father, through his perfect atonement for our sins by the way of the cross and death, Jesus totally disarmed Satan and all those fallen angels…God forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:13-15)
Yup, every knee will bow! All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18
When we pray in Jesus’ name we are praying on Jesus’ authority.
Question: Do you wield Jesus’ authority in prayer?
Eldredge writes- “Amen is is a pronouncement, firm and authoritative: ‘Yes! So be it! Let this be done! Amen is a declaration; in that sense it is like a command…’In Jesus’ name’ is even more of a command…like the drop of a judge’s gavel.
Pray (on page 69) “Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit-I ask you to open the eyes of my heart and grant to me a personal revelation on the truth of the authority given to Jesus, and how I really do share in that authority, Break this through to me.”
The Prayer of Intervention
Girlfriends, when a name comes to mind, when our sleep is disturbed...take action and PRAY.
Eldredge shares Peter’s story of rescue and how “Peter’s deliverance appears connected to Acts 12:5 the church prayed earnestly for him.
In the previous session my church connect group was sharing angel stories. At the center of Peter’s rescue story is an angel. What a wonderful reminder is held in Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
This chapter reminds us to pray, pray, pray. Page 81 “The prayer of intervention requires sticking with it, as Elijah modeled for us. Effective prayer is often like the felling of a great tree-it takes repeated blows….When you think you are finished praying, you are probably just getting warmed up…Much of the early stages of our praying involves not so much interceding but getting ourselves back into alignment with God and his kingdom…press into prayer.
Again I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them. Matthew 18:19-20
There is so much more. The prayer model in pages 83-89 is worth the price of the book.
Those praying for Peter were proclaiming truth, invoking the kingdom, enforcing the kingdom.
If you do nothing else with this entire study personalize the prayer example on pages 84-86. Switch out Peter’s name for someone you are pressing into prayer for.
Page 88 outlines the power behind how the Eldredge’s prayer warriors where praying against the wildfire.“We are friends and allies of our intimate God; he has given us power and authority to change the course of events ourselves. Human beings are meant to intervene, to engage, to make a difference. We can move mountains. It’s in our DNA.”
