The Day After

While Sunday and Monday felt like wandering in a dry and weary land waiting and wondering with our QB for medical outcomes, we've made it to Wednesday.  The wondering is still facing us, but now we see more clearly the wonder and sovereignty of who God is.

The day after the hit I was still deep in mother hen mode. Still shell shocked and a bit nervous caring for someone else's child at such a critical time.  (I find as a grandmother, I walk more gingerly concerning decisions than I did as a mother who just prayed and went with her gut.)
Being bold, I said to him, "Before I make you breakfast I want us to have a little Jesus time, because I'm blown away by what He has given me in my quiet time this morning."  He chuckled and said, "It's going to be from Jesus Calling isn't it?"  Guess I send him that a lot.

Now, my mama raised me to always take a hostess gift when you go to stay with someone. What to bring to the home of a NFL quarterback was a new dilemma.  We have a shop at the lake that does custom engraving, so I went with a cutting board with Psalm 16:8 which we had recently shared engraved upon it and I had four black slate coasters made with "E" words...  Entrust, Execute, Equip, Endure.
Sitting on the couch I said, "What does that coaster beside you say?"  It was entrust.

I set the stage, "Are you ready for this?  God goes before us in all things.  He directed me to select those very words on the coasters.  Then he knew the Jesus Calling devotional for October 7th would not only match the coaster, but address so many emotions facing you today.  God is before all things!"
October 7

"IN ORDER TO HEAR MY VOICE, you must release all your worries into My care. Entrust to Me everything that concerns you. This clears the way for you to seek My Face unhindered. Let Me free you from fear that is hiding deep inside you. Sit quietly in My Presence, allowing My Light to soak into you and drive out any darkness lodged within you.
Accept each day just as it comes to you, remembering that I am sovereign over your life. Rejoice in this day that I have made, trusting that I am abundantly present in it. Instead of regretting or resenting the way things are, thank Me in all circumstances. Trust Me and don’t be fearful; thank Me and rest in My sovereignty."
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
—1 Peter 5:6–7
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
—Psalm 118:24
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
—1 Thessalonians 5:18
Sweet friends, I know you are facing yourself or carrying for others many unknowns. But rejoice that you are not alone.  Even better yet, not only is God with you, God has gone before you!
