Same Kind of Different

October 25

We were blessed to be able to make a hospital run the other day to sit with friends whose daughter was facing a medical battle.  The evening before in our small group setting we had been challenged to open our eyes to where God wanted us to serve. When the call came the next morning, concerning our friends' situation, it was a no brainer...we were to shift the order of our day and GO.

While in the big city (Roanoke) the rains were pouring down (praise the Lord), so we decided to take in a movie. The Same Kind of Different as Me was worth every penny.  It is about a woman who truly sees through God's eyes and serves the homeless.  It packs a powerful punch with a great reminder that we are all homeless here on earth, for this is not our home!

"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ..."
Philippians 3:20

Looking up serve in the dictionary one definition was attend to another was perform duties or services for another.
"...just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28

We could argue, it was easier for Jesus to live a life of service, being God, for he knew what he was coming to do, he knew the duration of the assignment was not overwhelming in light of eternity, and he knew he was heading back to heaven to sit on the throne. These thoughts are taking me deep...bearing the sins of the world could not be easy, seeing the heartbreak of your creation has to be devastating, knowing the eternal consequences of rejection of Christ from the majority of people has to be one heavy load.

Oh how different each day would be if we could see with spiritual eyes.
Oh how differently we would live if we maintained an eternal outlook.
Oh how fully we would serve and love if we looked beyond ourselves and loved like Jesus.
