Seek First

While our beautiful, nurse, daughter in law battles alongside the sick in Minnesota,
our grandchildren stand watch over a new puppy at their home.

Today's Coloring Page highlights this Promise...
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you."
Matthew 6:33

This part of the Sermon on the Mount points us to an examination of our priorities.  Anything not adding to our spiritual growth is taking away from our time with God seeking His purpose for our lives.  I'm not saying just sit in your prayer closet the rest of your life. God calls us to work, to serve, to recreate, but He calls us to seek Him "first" each day. (And I blew that today wanting to get a walk in before posting.)

A new word for me last week was appetency.  "The Latin verb 'appetite,' meaning to seek after, is the root of both appetency and appetite."  (Not sure about y'all but this "stay at home" order has given me quite an appetite!)  "In addition to the definition of a hunger, appetency also means a natural inclination for something."

God created us to long for him! The amount of time we have here on earth is uncertain, but having appetency for God first should be our priority. Until we do this we will never be satisfied.   Right now during this pandemic, God has taken away many of our past times.  Shopping, entertainment, sports, vacations, even the time invested in our jobs for many has been diminished by eliminating commute time.  How many people who have never spent time with Him are doing that?  Not enough.

We need to turn our eyes upon Jesus and keep them there.
