Wounded Animal

Image
This little one is offering up a cup of refreshment.  A large barge came into our cove breaking the beauty of the morning's silence. Right after it passed our property the cry of an animal, obviously in pain, could be heard. I'd never heard cries like this. The trees limited my visibility to see the animal.   We have a groundhog we named Wilson who has what my husband calls a vacation home  on that side of our property and part of me wonders if he was hit by that barge. There are several beavers as well as blue heron who skim the top of the water crisscrossing the cove. The cries became weaker and less frequent. It broke my heart to not be able to do anything.  All the other creatures quieted at this time. Within 20 minutes the cries ceased and the birds went berserk.  I asked the Lord, "Where are you taking me with this scenario?" His reply,"As you head out today you will encounter many wounded people. Have your eyes open to the ones I want you to come alongside

Lost and Found

Image
Can you find the keys? Lawsie, lawsie, we've lost some things recently. Fortunately, no grandchildren, but our credit card and I lost my husband's keys to two of the church campuses.  The search for lost things can certainly make your mind weary and be a major distraction.  Sharing the stories with a friend, I told of how the credit card was actually offered to one of our pastors from another campus when he visited my husband's favorite ice cream shop and how I tore our car apart thinking I'd lost his church keys in my car. The friend topped off those tales!  When she was a teenager she came in the house and tossed her keys on the counter.  For days she couldn't find the keys.  Then one morning she was making toast and smelled plastic burning. When she tossed the key ring it had landed in the toaster! The Parable of the Lost Sheep in Luke 15:4-7 came to me in my days of key searching. I knew they had to be somewhere close because they had been in my hands in the c

Touch

Image
Our 15 year old grandson has trained with his football team all summer. He touched a lot of guys in their first scrimmage making sacks, tackles, a touch down and an interception! Then in his opening game Friday night, while starting at  OLB, he got his first PICK 6! He touched and held onto that ball while running 60 yards for the TD.  He is also long snapping carrying out the tradition of his father and grandfather! Another grandson curled up in our bed one night and said, "Mama Boo will you rub my feet and scratch my back?"  That led to a discussion on how amazing God was with the creation of touch.  We talked about all the various textures our fingers feel...hot and cold, smooth and rough, soft and sharp, sticky and itchy and how each person has an individual finger print.   Getting out of a pool, into the chilly air, with yet another grandson recently we snuggled together sharing a beach towel. We talked about how when our bodies touch we warm up from one another's bo

The Great I AM

Image
This one is easy to love. She loves life and loves to dress up!   The question was posed to me, "Do you know God's name?" God has many names. He is the Beginning and the End, our Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace and on and on, but his personal name is Yahweh and in Exodus we are taught his name is I AM. R.C. Sproul wrote about a college theology class he was teaching and he gives an excellent example of how to share what we love about God, our great I AM.  This excerpt is adapted from  his book  Moses and the Burning Bush . "Many years ago, I taught a college course on theology, and we were studying the names of God. I was trying to illustrate the significance of the names of God, and what they reveal about God’s character. Just before class, a girl, whom I’ll call Mary, walked into the room in a strange, somewhat awkward manner—so that anyone could see the glittering diamond ring on her left hand. I said, 'Mary, are you engaged?' She

Tis the Season

Image
6 Years Later In my quiet time Saturday morning,  I was still on a high from our grandson scoring a  “Pick 6” in his first varsity football game. The word the Lord had for me was competition.    Looking at several definitions I went with this one.  Competition - " The act or process of trying to get or win something; something which not everyone can have.” Hmm, not everyone gets Jesus do they? I had awakened thinking...“Tis the Season to be Merry” 🏈.  To be honest a little stressed and anxious at some points, but I do love football season. This year it will  consume my weekends in a personal way. Friday Night Lights in Norfolk with a 15 year old grandson, Saturdays watching the UNC TarHeels whom my husband played with for four years and Sundays with an NFL quarterback who has been in our lives his whole life. I asked the Lord to search my heart related to this passion of wanting so much for these young men.  Team sports are a great platform for our faith to play out. I first thou

New Beginnings

Image
A big batch of the grands started back to school this week. Another school year with new teachers, friends, classes and challenges to uncover. "God of mercy, do what only You can do and make all things new."  Big Daddy Weave “And he who was seated on the throne said, “ Behold, I am making all things new. ” Also he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true . '” Revelation 21:5 Trustworthy and true... those are the words that stopped me in my tracks this morning and took me to my knees.  The prayer for ALL school children was that they would be taught from a Biblical perspective how to measure who is trustworthy and what is true.  Our beliefs have to be grounded in/on something and the Bible is the best measuring stick I know of.  The next word that came to me was deception. When I went to search for a Bible verse on deception Gotquestions.com took me to the long list at the end of this devotional.  I selected Romans 12:2 to meditate on today and

I Don't Want to Miss Anything

Image
These two are "sacked" out and rested up for more fun at Shiloh. It's been a wonderful summer filled with memory making with our grands. At some point, when asked to keep grandchildren for overnights all the parents have shared what good sleepers they are.  LOL. More often than not we have early risers.  Like 5-6AM early risers. One of our grandsons heard me chuckling when the grands were talking among themselves about how late they sleep. When I laughed this sweet 9 year old said, "Well, except when we are here. We get up so early because we are afraid if we sleep in we might miss something. There is always something fun going on." That makes sense. Actually, this particular child and I had discusses why we thought God made us to need to sleep, eat, and use the bathroom.  He inquired if those things would be necessary in heaven.  My guess is sleep may not be necessary, we know heaven will always be light.  But, like the grands, we will not want to sleep becau

Back to School Tubing

Here is the prayer I sent or prayed over our grandchildren starting school today.  May it be a blessing to your offspring as well. God, thank You that my grandchildren are physically, mentally and emotionally able to go to school and that their parents can finally supply them with clothing and school materials.  Please make them aware of Your presence that goes with them wherever they go. Empower them with the courage to face new challenges and give them the ability to have friends who enhance their lives and the ability for them to be a blessing to teachers and students alike. Fill them with joy each day and may they remember You have given them angels to watch over them every step they take and also a grandmother who prays without ceasing for them.  In Jesus' name, Amen. Many of our grandchildren started back to school today. They attend private, public and Christian schools. Bright Radio FM in Maryland posted these back to school prayers to speak over children during their sch
