Sin Entangles - Bring it to the Surface

Father-son pondering.

There is a wound on my leg that is nasty. It is red and has pus.  Googling home remedies, before I head to the doctor, the recommendation says to do hot soaks to bring the pus to the surface and then apply antibiotic ointment.  Immediately, I thought of sin. Whew! We need to bring it to the surface.

Sin isn't outside of us, temptations and evil yes, but that sin which so easily entangles us is on the inside. It is entangled with our thoughts and desires. It tries to fuel our motives and actions.  Sin steals our peace and joy.

Sin can be a home wrecker, a fellowship devastator, an interruptor to prayer and a big blocker to obedience to God.

...let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us...Hebrews 12:1

We need to do some soaking to bring sin to the surface and recognize it and repent of it.  Soaking in God's Word and soaking in listening prayer. Just as I will feel better when this infection leaves my body, we feel better when sin doesn't get the best of it.

Will it rear it's ugly head again? Most certainly, but through the Holy Spirit in us and what Jesus did on the cross we have been given the power to bring it to the surface and toss it out.
