Accomplish...Accelerate

December 5
Our quarterback made it to the state championship game. We wanted desperately to make the drive to Columbia, SC, but the timing just wasn't right.  The day before the game I wrote to him and shared what the Lord gave me in a time of prayer.

God gave me two words for you.  The first was accomplishment,  so I went to the Bible to see what might be there.   Moses' instructional speech to the Israelites made me think of the team gathering tomorrow on the center of the field.  They will be bringing their sacrifices and offerings to this game and giving it their all.  (Hopefully, not any of their first borns, but some may have those in the stands.)  Feast there in the Presence of God and celebrate all the accomplishments of this year and the blessings of God.

Instead find the site that God, your God, will choose and mark it with his name as a common center for all the tribes of Israel. Assemble there. Bring to that place your Absolution-Offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and Tribute-Offerings, your Vow-Offerings, your Freewill-Offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. Feast there in the Presence of God, your God. Celebrate everything that you and your families have accomplished under the blessing of God, your God.  Deuteronomy 5-7

Then I prayed James 3:3-5 and asked that no word come out of your or any other player’s or coach’s mouth which would do anything but uplift, encourage and accomplish good.

A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! James 3:3-5

The second word was accelerate.  Couldn’t find it in the Bible, but used the synonym “run”

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1

Whatever the outcome of the game I know God will be with you.  May you rejoice in the fact that God has accomplished great things in you this season and your faith has certainly accelerated!
I love you and am privileged to pray for you. Mama Boo

They lost in overtime.  It was heart wrenching, but then you think how many people never experience a championship game.  The excitement when the Lord returns will be grander than any stands filled with cheering fans.  The decision is up to us whether we will be victorious when the trumpet sounds.  Having our sins forgiven and getting to bask in the Lord's love forever will be the ultimate experience.
Amen!

An exciting aside:  This young man called me last night to say the VA Tech quarterback coach came to his school yesterday to offer him a scholarship!  (That is the closest D1 school to us and I would be elated.)  He is only a junior and also has an offer from LSU and I feel sure more to come.  My Daddy is a VT alum and huge fan. I was at his house when the call came so it was fun for this fellow to get to share the news with my dad.  Isn't God grand!
