Resilience

This is one of my favorite photos from several years ago.
Dressed in costumes, these two grands were out for a ride in their F-150 when a steep hill slowed them down. Big sister jumps out with resilience and gives them a much needed
push to make it to level ground and get going again.
Happy Birthday to this little lady who turns 9 today.

"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial,
for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life,
which God has promised to those who love him."
James 1:12

Resilience-"the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties."

Does that sound like where the world is right now? Instead of fretting and wondering when things will get back to the way they were, we may need to accept some new realities and rejoice over lifestyle changes God has shown us during this time of quarantine.

The Bible admonishes us that we will have trials and need to press on when adversity comes.

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do:forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you."  Philippians 3:13-15

We will experience hardship and temptation, yet we are instructed...
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."  Romans 12:21

There are going to be trials through out our lifetime, but the Bible says...
"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing...Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him."  James 1:2-4;12

We have been given the story of Job, a man who demonstrated great resilience in the face of tragedy, inexplicable loss, incredible torment on his body, and hurtful rejection by family and friends.  At a time he probably wanted to sing "Stand by Me" people did not.  Even his wife asked, "'Why do you still trust God? Why don't you curse him and die?' Job replied, 'Don't talk like a fool! If we accept blessings from God, we must accept trouble as well.' In all that happened, Job never once said anything against God." Job 2:9-10

There is a song that gives me chill bumps every time I hear it, which comes from Job 19:25
"For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth."

Father,
These past months have been a challenge as our lives have been changed by the Corona virus and the restrictions that have come with it.  We have been forced to put life as we know  it on hold.  You have not changed though and you still have a hold on each of us and will keep us from stumbling. May our trust increase as we live Holy Spirit led lives, that are found worshipping and praising You.  In Jesus name, Amen!
