Choices

Praise the Lord for the choice these Jesus loving NFL players made to bow together in a public place after a battle to honor Him.  A powerful choice that speaks volumes! Below is a shot of one of our extra children we took into our lives the day he was born. Our precious #2, Mason Rudolph, boarding a plane with his Pittsburg Steelers teammates.  (Just typing his # made me realize that in his humility in 2018, Mason may have made the choice to select that number knowing he was coming in as the #2, the back up quarterback to Ben Roethlisberger. That's another great soul searching topic.)

Our freezer door stays stocked with ice cream from our local creamery. The flavor choices are designed to please any palate.  Vanilla and chocolate chip cookie dough seem to be the favorites, but apple pie, expresso chocolate chip, lemon crunch, mint chocolate chip and strawberry are not far behind.

Think about the choices we make every day! What we will eat and what we will wear.  Whose calls, texts and/or emails we will answer. What we choose to listen to and watch.  Where we will spend our free time.  How we will respond to the actions of others.  Whether we will go through the yellow light or slow down and stop at the red one.

I chuckle at my husband's driving speed, this is probably true of all of us, but if we are headed somewhere important to him that pedal may be pressed a little harder. Choices. How many minutes go by without us making a choice?  Right now every word I format is a choice.

The choice we make with the longest lasting repercussions is whom we will serve.

... choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Joshua's choice to serve God was personal, passionate, and permanent. True worship of the living God must come from the heart.

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24,

Maybe money isn’t the problem, but something else that divides our service to God and has the tendency to become an idol.

Whew. It was unbelievable in  Matthew 27:15  when the crowd chose to have Barabbas released instead of Jesus.

What was behind Jesus' choosing of each of the twelve disciples? He chose Judas knowing he would betray Him. John 6:7

Jesus asks them...Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." Matthew 16:24

Jesus puts the choice before us today...will we follow him?

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12

Holy Spirit be ignited in our lives!  Be the guiding light in all the choices that we make. In Jesus' name, the one our hearts desire to honor. Amen
