Breadcrumbs

My little "crumb bunny" coming in early to cuddle in matching pink striped pajamas.

Vacuuming up banana bread crumbs from the floor my mind went to Hansel and Gretel and the thought of what kind of trail am I leaving for others to follow.  A few days later our youngest granddaughter was here and she walked out of our room pulling the end of a ball of yarn and her father said, "That's so she can find her way back."

From where do you need to find your way back?

In the past week we've been called to come alongside a young widow and her children as they said farewell to a beloved husband and father.  There will be days ahead where they wonder if they will ever find themselves coming back from the grief that holds them in its' grasp.

A text came on my phone from a couple crying out for prayer as their 21 year old nephew lies in critical condition from a fall that has left him with a severe brain injury.  We held them and prayed as they sobbed from shock and exhaustion wondering how this scenario will play out for their family. Will this young man find his way back from this horrific accident?

The Lord brought a friend to mind and I wanted to drop off a little Mother's Day cheer for her. As she answered the phone I could hear weariness in the voice of this wife who has become a full time caregiver for her husband the past two years.  He had fallen that morning and was in tough shape with wounds to his arm and head. How do you find your way back from a vibrant marriage and physical strength that is now zapping both of your minds and bodies?

The same week another woman who has been following the crumb trail of a hurtful divorce sat on our couch sharing her story. Holding on by a thread at times, she is no longer unraveling, but trusting that God has goodness ahead for her life and will show her the way.

Luke 9:57 tells the story of the cost of following Jesus and how not everyone was willing to walk away from everything to do just that.  Yet,  As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Jesus still calls out to us..."Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!"  Matthew 4:19

Following Jesus, exercising praise, prayer, and the guidance from God's Word are the breadcrumbs that lead us back to wholeness when the hurt is oh so deep.
